Bedtime Stories

My kids love bedtime stories! Whether they are in preschool or elementary school … listening to stories at bedtime is a favorite part of our routine. I choose a long playlist of high quality books or play an audio kids bible.

Each of my kids has a speaker in their room connected to an iPad or Kindle Fire to play the bedtime story playlist after I read a story in person (or if I’m too tired, they just listen to the playlist). I love that the speaker is waterproof – just a bit more durable and can be used in the bathroom even when the tub or shower get steamy! The iPad case and the Kindle Fire case make it easy to prop up the device and port it around wherever the kids want the device.

I lock the screen and definitely have child safe profiles on each device to make sure my kids don’t have free rein to an internet browser or YouTube. At night, it is strictly storytime. I keep the older tech-savvy kids’ devices in my room as they play over Bluetooth to the speakers as an added measure of internet safety.

Even my babies have listened to stories at night as they sleep! Not only does it train them to be able to sleep with various noises around… but somehow they end up having well developed expressive and receptive language abilities. The enjoy stories and reading and are verbally fluent.
