Your Winter Season Is Not Wasted: Trusting God When You Can’t See the Harvest Yet

There are seasons of life when it feels like absolutely nothing is happening.

You pray.

You wait.

You keep showing up.

You keep caring for your children, doing your work, serving others, trying to grow, trying to heal—and yet you wonder:

“God, when am I going to see something change?”

I think some seasons of life are a lot like winter.

Winter Can Make You Question What’s Happening

Think about a field in the middle of winter.

From the outside, it can look barren.

There may be no flowers. No fruit. No visible evidence of growth.

If you only looked at what was happening above the surface, you might conclude that nothing was happening at all.

But underneath the soil, the story can be very different.

Roots are developing.

Seeds are preparing.

The plant is getting ready for the conditions that will eventually allow it to grow.

The absence of visible growth doesn’t mean the absence of life.

And sometimes I think we need that reminder in our faith.

God Can Be Working Where You Cannot See

There are things God may be doing in your life right now that you simply cannot see yet.

He may be strengthening your character.

He may be changing your desires.

He may be healing places in your heart.

He may be preparing relationships.

He may be opening doors that haven’t appeared yet.

He may be preparing YOU for the answer to a prayer you’ve been asking Him to answer.

And sometimes, the preparation happens quietly.

That’s difficult for us because we live in a culture that celebrates visible results.

We want the before-and-after.

We want the breakthrough.

We want the testimony.

We want to see the evidence that our prayers are working.

But God often does some of His deepest work beneath the surface.

Don’t Dig Up the Seed Because You Can’t See the Plant

Imagine planting a seed and then digging it up every few days because you’re worried it isn’t growing.

You’d interrupt the very process you’re waiting for.

Sometimes we do something similar spiritually.

We pray for something.

Then we become anxious because we can’t see movement.

We question God.

We change directions.

We give up.

We decide the season isn’t going anywhere.

But what if the invitation is simply:

Stay rooted.

Keep praying.

Keep trusting.

Keep doing the next faithful thing.

Keep allowing God to work in you while He works around you.

Then Suddenly, Spring Comes

One of the beautiful things about spring is how quickly a landscape can change.

What looked dormant suddenly begins to bloom.

What appeared lifeless suddenly has color.

Growth that was invisible becomes obvious.

And sometimes that’s what God’s timing feels like.

You can spend months—or even years—in a season of preparation.

Then suddenly, things begin to move.

A door opens.

A relationship changes.

An opportunity appears.

A dream comes alive.

A prayer is answered.

A part of you that has been quietly developing suddenly becomes visible.

And you realize:

God wasn’t doing nothing.

He was preparing the harvest.

Your Winter Is Not Wasted

If you’re in a waiting season right now, I want you to hear this:

Don’t confuse hiddenness with absence.

Just because you can’t see what God is doing doesn’t mean He isn’t doing anything.

Your roots may be growing.

Your faith may be deepening.

Your character may be strengthening.

Your capacity may be expanding.

Your next season may be getting prepared.

So don’t give up just because you’re tired of waiting.

Don’t assume the field is barren just because you can’t see flowers yet.

And don’t despise the winter.

Winter has a purpose too.

Your Inner-Work Question

Take a quiet moment and ask yourself:

Where have I interpreted “I can’t see it” as “God isn’t doing it”?

And then ask:

What might God be developing beneath the surface of my life right now?

You don’t have to have all the answers.

You don’t have to know when spring will come.

You simply have to keep putting down roots.

Because the God who is faithful in winter is the same God who brings the harvest in spring.

Keep trusting. Keep growing. Keep believing.
